It’s our 10th anniversary of the Baton Rouge Maker Faire and we want you! Our Call for Makers form is open now and you can apply HERE! We are currently looking for Makers to demonstrate and share their hobbies and projects at this year’s Maker Faire which will take place October 1st to 7th. The week will feature maker workshops and events all leading up to our main event on Saturday, October 7th at the Main Library on Goodwood!
Building a strong maker community means working together, so priority acceptance will go to makers who can incorporate or demonstrate something to teach or share with Maker Faire attendees.
To celebrate our 9th annual Maker Faire, we’ve got a week of maker events leading up to the main event on Saturday, October 15th @ 10am!
Join us for a badging class to learn the basics of safely operating our Makerspace equipment, including professional microphones and soundboards, 3D printers, sewing machines, button makers, Cricuts, and more! Once you have completed a badging class, you may reserve the equipment for personal use! Registration is required. To register, call the branch directly or visit ebrpl.com/calendar. See opportunities below:
It’s almost here! The Baton Rouge Maker Faire is Saturday, October 15th from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.! Here’s some information to help you for the day of the Faire.
Setup is from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. When you arrive, check in at either the rear loading dock or the front of the plaza. At the check-in table, you’ll receive a swag bag and be directed to your booth’s location.
The rear loading dock can be accessed through the BREC Independence Park Theatre parking lot. You can unload under the loading dock or in the adjacent gravel lot. If your booth is outside on the plaza, please use the Main Library’s front parking lot off of Goodwood Blvd. You may unload your vehicle next to the plaza. Whenever you are finished unloading, please move your vehicle so that others may unload! There will be large flatbed hand trucks and smaller push carts available in both locations.
Plan on having your booth ready for visitors by 9:50 a.m. There will be snacks and water throughout the day for makers. Unfortunately, we are not able to provide lunch this year; however, there will be three food trucks at the Faire, if you would like to purchase a meal.
Please keep our Library beautiful! If you would like to hang things on the wall, you must use a non-marking option such as blue painter’s tape or gaffing tape.
We are happy to assist you throughout the day! Look for the Maker Faire team in dark green Maker Faire shirts. Library staff will also be available to help, along with volunteers from the Baton Rouge High Key Club and Beta Club who will be wearing their club-affiliated t-shirts.
The Maker Faire ends at 5 p.m. and the Library closes to the public at 6 p.m., so if someone is coming to assist you in packing up your booth, please ask them to arrive before 6 p.m. Hand trucks and push carts will again be available.
We would like to thank our growing list of supporters: East Baton Rouge Parish Library, BREC, and Mid City Makers Market. Our schedule is jam-packed, so please check out the inspiring projects Baton Rouge Makers are working on!
We look forward to seeing you Saturday, October 15th! If you have any questions, please let us know!
Baton Rouge Maker Faire Team
Celebrate creative creations at this year’s Baton Rouge Maker Faire on Saturday, October 15, 10 a.m.- 5 p.m.! Join us at the Main Library at Goodwood for a gathering of people who enjoy learning and love sharing what they do. From engineers to artists to scientists to crafters, Maker Faire is a venue for “makers” to demonstrate hobbies, experiments, projects, and more! This family friendly showcase of invention, creativity, and resourcefulness is something you won’t want to miss! Chef Philippe Parola will be our Maker Faire headliner this year and will be demonstrating how to prepare, clean, catch, and cook invasive species. We will also have Makerspace programs at selected library branches throughout the month of October!
Our 9th Annual Maker Faire will shine a special spotlight on sustainability. Share your upcycling project with us! Send us a before and after photo, and we’ll feature them at this year’s Maker Faire! Upload your pics at ebrpl.co/upcycle, use the QR code provided, or email them to firstname.lastname@example.org along with your name and a brief description of your project. Upcycling is the process of transforming waste into something new. Upcycling can be any creative re-use or repurposing that gives new life to old stuff, such as plastic bottle planters, a pallet sofa, a quilt made out of old t-shirts, or magazine collages. We can’t wait to see your upcycled creations! Would you like to participate as a Maker in this year’s Maker Faire? Visit batonrouge.makerfaire.com/call-for-makers to get started!
